VFD Instantaneous Output Fault

VFD-IOF1

Drive detected a sudden output phase current spike exceeding the instantaneous trip threshold.

Probable Causes (ranked)

Fix Steps

  1. 1 If motor was spinning when drive started, enable catch-a-spinning-load feature
  2. 2 Megger motor cables and motor windings — check for developing short
  3. 3 Tighten all connections at drive output and motor terminal box
  4. 4 Verify motor nameplate data matches drive parameters exactly
  5. 5 If intermittent, monitor drive output current waveform for spikes

Field Trick

If the fault only happens on restart after a coast-stop, enable 'DC injection braking' or 'flying start catch'. The motor is still spinning when the drive tries to restart.
