VFD Encoder Feedback Error

VFD-EF1

Drive lost feedback from motor encoder. Closed-loop speed control cannot maintain accuracy without feedback.

Probable Causes (ranked)

Fix Steps

  1. 1 Check encoder cable connections at motor and drive — reseat connectors
  2. 2 Verify encoder power: typically 5V or 24V at encoder connector
  3. 3 Slowly rotate motor by hand — watch for pulse count on drive display
  4. 4 Inspect encoder cable for damage — must be shielded, routed away from power cables
  5. 5 Verify encoder PPR setting in drive matches physical encoder
  6. 6 If noise suspected, check shield grounding — ground at drive end only

Field Trick

Disconnect encoder and switch drive to open-loop (V/Hz) mode. If motor runs fine, the encoder or its wiring is the problem.
