VFD Current Fault During Accel

VFD-CF1

Drive faulted on overcurrent during acceleration ramp. Motor drawing excessive current trying to accelerate the load.

Probable Causes (ranked)

Fix Steps

  1. 1 Increase acceleration time — double current value and test
  2. 2 Check motor FLA vs drive rated current — drive must be >= motor FLA
  3. 3 Verify no mechanical binding during startup — try starting unloaded
  4. 4 Enable torque limit during acceleration if drive supports it
  5. 5 Check motor boost voltage parameter — reduce if motor saturating

Field Trick

Double the accel time. If it stops faulting, split the difference to find the minimum safe ramp time.
