Conveyor Belt Alignment — Critical Drift

CONV-ALIGN1

Belt has drifted significantly off-center and is rubbing against the frame or has triggered the belt alignment switch. Risk of belt edge damage and product falling off conveyor.

Probable Causes (ranked)

Fix Steps

  1. 1 Stop conveyor and inspect belt edges for fraying, cutting, or delamination
  2. 2 Clean head and tail pulleys — scrape off any material buildup
  3. 3 Check all idler rollers by hand — spin each one, feel for seized bearings
  4. 4 Adjust tail pulley tracking bolts — move the side the belt is tracking TOWARD by 1/4 turn
  5. 5 Run conveyor at slow speed and observe — make incremental 1/4 turn adjustments, wait 3 full belt rotations between adjustments
  6. 6 If belt continues to drift, check belt splice — a crooked splice will never track straight

Field Trick

The belt always tracks toward the tight side. If the belt drifts to the left, the left side of the tail pulley is tighter than the right. Loosen the left snub bolt 1/4 turn (or tighten the right 1/4 turn). Always adjust at the TAIL pulley for tracking, not the head.
